Love the app, hate the update
Thoroughly enjoy using the app and having access to great content. However since the last update I’ve been experiencing an issue. If I’m in the middle of an article and my phone lock screen comes on (e.g. if I don’t touch the screen for a certain amount of time), when I swipe back in the article automatically returns to the beginning/top of the page. Very annoying for longer articles having to go back through and find my place. Please fix!
Excellent app with one overriding flaw
NO OTHER NEWS APP HAS THIS FLAW which I have reported several times with no response Excellent content and easy to use but one flaw found only in one other news app (Detroit Free Press app) makes using this app frustrating to the point of avoiding it. 1)If I am reading a article 2)Want to get additional information on a place, name, event, statistic, etc. 3) Goto another source anywhere else on the internet such as Wikipedia, Google maps, etc. 4) I am returned to the “Top Stories” page instead of the article I was reading I normal use an iPad Pro running the most iPadOS 15.1 but this flaw has been present for at least 3 months through several system upgrades
So much better
To echo some other reviews the News is so much more balanced than the Free Press which I found almost impossible to read- the journalists (if you can call them that) were just about their own personal feelings devoid of any facts – figures since they are a branch of USA TODAY – the News gives a good perspective and analysis. Enjoying the read so far.
Great App but need to improve picture viewing
I have used the detnews app for at least 8 years. It’s great for keeping up with my home town. Especially my sports teams. I live in Chicago now.
Only suggestion I have: please let me expand the view of the photographs that show up with the title of the article. Or add them again in the article itself. It’s disappointing sometimes when I can’t inspect those photos more closely. I use an IPhone. Perhaps that makes a difference.
Go to check text and the app resets to top
I have a habit of pouncing back and forth between apps a lot. And I haven’t noticed a problem with this until today so maybe it’s a new update glitch. When I go to another app mid story and go back to finish reading the app resets back to the top of the list of stories and I have to scroll all the way down to finish reading a story I left open when I switched to say read an incoming text.
Fair and balanced
Unlike Detroit’s other daily, the Free Press, which is a liberal cesspool of racist and uneducated writers, the News gives a fairly accurate portrayal of events, without the typical liberal bias. They are sometimes hard on republicans, which is refreshing, especially when they deserve it. If you’re only going to sign up for one paper to get Detroit’s news, the News is it.
