Great alternative to a Holter monitor
Quick, easy, efficient alternative for continuous heart monitoring. Very small unit affixed to left chest with reliable adhesive, so you can shower and sleep undisturbed. Apply, after receiving by mail, wear for days to weeks as prescribed by physician, remove and return by US mail using attached mailing label. Very well written directions for application included. No fuss, no muss experience. Company prints out results and sends to prescribing physician for review. Well thought out and executed product from patient standpoint.
Update disaster
Received a new patch and put it on. I know I have to update the serial number in the app. Opened the app and was greeted with the message that the certificate of the server is … (the rest of the test isn’t visible, I assume the missing word is invalid or expired). Call #1: instructed to remove app and install new one. I tried this but was notified that my iOS is too old but that I could run an older version. Which I did and got the same message. Call #2 suggested I use the written log. So I switched to my iPad, downloaded the app and signed in. Message says that my wear period has ended. This is correct; it’s why I need to update the serial number. But I can’t because the only visible controls are the play button to view a video on shipping it back and the home icon, which does nothing. Call #3 informs me to turn up the brightness, which I do. He says I need to access my profile, but of course there is no way to do this. On top of this he asked me for my password! Hard to imagine any reasonable modern system where that would be tolerated. He also said this is a known problem that has been reported by others. I don’t know which would be worse, that he made that up or that it is true and he didn’t start with that information.
Decent app
Makes it much easier to log symptoms when they occur. The only limitation is the amount of text you can enter in the detail section. That’s fine with me. I’m keeping a separate log for anything I need to go into detail for. If I had to log each incident in the book that comes with the device I probably wouldn’t do it so it’s worth it to install the app. I had trouble registering my device from my iPhone 13, whether I entered the serial number manually or tried to use the scanner. I was able to register it from my iPad Air by manually entering the serial number. Not that this is the place to rate the device itself but I like this better than using a Holter monitor. The only downside is where the device is stuck to your chest can itch.
Clever design but confusing diary text process
Appreciate how neatly nurse prepared & affixed monitor over heart. Like the choices of keeping written or WP diary of Med events; but ZIO app is like 150-char style on low-range laptops w/o ability to easily change entries. Also beware of extreme itching in shaved area (after 3 days for me); called Cust support for permission to stop in day 4. Called today for perm to return unit though I didn’t push orange start button; agent confirmed that nurse had done that after installing so file should contain 4 whole days of heart activity. Cardiologist warned that, if no abnormalities are found on next images, he may implant 3-month tracker in arm. Until further notice, avoid gym (where I had fainted after 30 min light workout 10 days ago) & driving. Hydrate, avoid sugar/salt etc
Zio woks well!
In my second experience with the Zio patch, I found it works extremely well, especially in coordination with the phone app, which makes everything easier, more efficient and ultimately I assume more effective in examining and decoding the accumulated data. The convenience of this device is exceptional – and I’ve worn several devices over the years as I’ve had my afib diagnosed and essentially dealt with after a third and successful ablation.
