Good App, hardware and support!

App keeps getting better! Last update included Amps unit! Hardware is best value on the market right now. My power panel is a long way from my router so the hardware would not stay connected. After working with Marty in customer support, it was determined that my Wi-Fi was too weak at that location. I independently verified this diagnosis with WiFi SweetSpot app and worked to upgrade my network. I tried a couple of Wi-Fi repeater/extenders but they still caused connectivity issues. I resolved all connectivity issues when adding Xfinity XFi Pods (mesh). Mesh is the way to go. Solved connectivity issues I had with a remote Ring doorbell also.

I use two of the eight current sensors to monitor the power supplied by my 16 Kw Generac whole house standby generator. Since it auto starts, when we are not home, I can now see when and how long the generator ran. It would be useful if emporia could ID generator sensors, send an alert when power supply transfers to the generator and allow an alternative energy cost (based on natural gas cost & generator efficiency) when the generator runs.

I look forward to future improvements!

Would have been five stars but

My home consumed more than double the neighborhood average kWh. This made solar untenable and I tried everything I could think of to reduce usage to no avail. The Vue 3 answered every question within 24 hours of installation. AC had been installed incorrectly, triggering the AC every time the fresh air fan turned on even when the furnace kicked on over winter! This translated to 15 minutes every hour of the AC running all day every day. The following weekend it showed me the AC started short cycling for about 24 hours which led to finding a broken damper stuck in normally closed causing the coils to freeze. I could never have recognized these problems without the Vue’s data. Saved me more than $1000 by allowing me to diy the damper replacement and remove the control wire for the fresh air intake without needing a technician. Five stars!

Fast forward a month and the app updated to not allow continuous scrolling of the data; it now shows data in segments per screen instead of being able see contiguous timeframes. I can see a specific hour, but not say the last 15 minutes of one hour and the first 45 minutes of the next. This makes identifying usage very difficult having to flip back and forth between screens. I wouldn’t have been so easily able to identify either issue above with this interface. Lots of great features and easy to use but it’s far less useful without continuous scrolling.

Great product with hopes it will get even better

At half the price of the competitor that relies on a poorly executed algorithm instead of CTs for each circuit, the Vue 2 is the solution that actually makes sense 😉 It was easy to install and configure. There are some tweaks I’d like to see but what really blew me away was the customer support. You can download the app and play with it in demo mode. If you have a question you can chat with someone in app. And they actually know what they’re talking about. I reached out after installing for some feature requests (one of which they were already working on) and had another good chat. Judging by the version history it looks like they are updating the app monthly. I’m excited to see where this goes. I love it so much I bought two so I can monitor every circuit in my panel.

Great monitors and control

I picked up a couple of small cryptocurrency miners. Being able to track how much energy they are using and monitor if they are currently drawing the expected power (and therefore mining appropriately) is incredibly useful. I run my rig off of solar/batteries as well, so if I find that my batteries are running dry and I’m about to start pulling from the expensive utility grid I can switch off my least efficient minors individually in order to mitigate financial loss.

The app is super user-friendly and works great. I just purchased four more smart switches and a monitor for my main panel to watch over my ac/aggregate mining panel/whole site aggregate/solar abd I can’t wait to get it installed!

Somewhat Useful

It does the job, but pretty useless for what I purchased the smart plug for due to the app limitations. The graph feature doesn’t allow the user to go back, say, a few months in time while using the S, M, H time formats. Well, it’s possible, but the user just has to scroll forever. I’m trying to view the history of a device to see if there were any spikes in power that may have caused a breaker to flip. Not able to do so with this app! I can only go back several months in time to see the total amount of amps used with the D and M time formats, which doesn’t help me pinpoint any exact power spike at all. Very frustrating that the data is there but is essentially inaccessible. One more thing— whenever I switch time formats, the view defaults back to the current date and time in the graph, which can be annoying if I’m trying to inspect past power usage.
